Dustin Hoffman receives Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary Film Festival

Hollywood veteran Dustin Hoffman was honored with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary. The 88‑year‑old accepted the award on the opening night, delivered an emotional speech about his career, the 1967 film The Graduate, and noted that America is “as divided as during the Vietnam War.”

During the ceremony he interacted with fans, including a wheelchair‑bound attendee for whom he arranged a ticket to his film. He also recounted that landing the role in The Graduate “was an accident,” describing director Mike Nichols as “the Spielberg of his day.”

The festival also highlighted other Hollywood figures: Maggie Gyllenhaal received the President’s Award, while Harvey Keitel, Jesse Eisenberg and other stars appeared on the red carpet. The event runs from July 3‑11 and draws thousands of international visitors.
