Bojovník Film Release and Production Details

Overview

Following its screening at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the Czech-Slovak MMA-themed drama ‘Bojovník’ (The Fighter) has entered cinemas in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Produced with a budget of approximately 70 million CZK, the film collaborated with the MMA organization Oktagon to ensure authenticity, utilizing major venues such as the O2 Arena and Eden Stadium for filming.

The production features real-life MMA stars, including David Kozma, Karlos Vémola, and Jiří Procházka, with a soundtrack involving Pam Rabbit and the Slovak rapper Separ.

Lead actor Milan Ondrík, portraying former boxing champion Pavel ‘Hoff’ Hoffmeister, has detailed the extreme physical and psychological demands of the role. To prepare, Ondrík engaged in rigorous MMA training, including grappling and ground fighting, and participated in a real fight for the Králi ulice organization. During filming in Ostrava, he reported running approximately seventy kilometers in just two days to maintain his character’s physical condition. Ondrík emphasized the need for emotional vulnerability and described the process as a constant exploration of personal limits, stating, ‘Average is death.’

At the Bratislava premiere, singer Martina Schindlerová attended to support Ondrík. Despite her support, she noted that her sensitive nature made watching the combat sports scenes difficult, describing the intense physical tension and stress she felt during match sequences involving knockouts.
