Dutch community venues host open days for volunteers and public

The War Museum in Altena organized a special open‑evening on Thursday 19 June for residents interested in volunteering. Attendees received a behind‑the‑scenes tour, met current volunteers and learned about a variety of tasks, from guiding visitors to supporting events and back‑office work. The museum emphasised that roles are available for people with an interest in history, visitor interaction or logistical support, and invited walk‑ins and email sign‑ups.

The Fire Brigade in Aalsmeer held a free open day on Saturday 13 June, opening the station on Zwarteweg to the public from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Demonstrations included controlled gas fires, rescue drills and hazardous‑material handling, while children could try a fire‑hose and ride in fire engines. Information booths offered fire‑safety advice, and visitors could view both modern and historic fire trucks.

Both events aimed to raise local awareness of the institutions’ roles and encourage community participation.
