Dutch festivals De Parade and Pinkpop grapple with extreme heat

The opening night of the traveling theatre festival De Parade in Rotterdam was disrupted by soaring temperatures above 30 °C, high humidity and a sudden thunderstorm that forced the evacuation of the Museumpark site. Performers continued in packed tents, offering a diverse program that included personal stories about love, caregiving, a wish for a child and a journey to Suriname.

At Pinkpop 2026 in Landgraaf, organisers staged a lineup featuring Franz Ferdinand, Editors, Sofi Tukker, Giant Rooks, Triggerfinger, Jerub and others. The event faced similarly high temperatures—around 31 °C—raising concerns about the grass on the festival fields and its ability to sustain photosynthesis, though the music proceeded as scheduled.

Both festivals highlight how Dutch outdoor cultural events are coping with unusually hot summer weather.
