Guitarist Tom Morello postponed his Pinkpop slot due to a family emergency and later cancelled the rest of his European tour after his 102‑year‑old mother was hospitalized. He performed at Pinkpop before the final cancellation, and refunds were arranged.

Mary Morello died on 12 July 2026 at age 102. Tom announced her passing on Instagram, noting her lifelong activism, including founding Parents for Rock and Rap. Musicians such as Serj Tankian, Metallica and Nikki Sixx posted tributes.

Within a week Tom and his family launched the Mary Morello Memorial Project, a month‑long fundraiser running until 1 Oct. Donations will support the UFW Foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières, The Midnight Mission, Jail Guitar Doors USA, Orphans of the Storm, All Chicago, Corazón con Cuba, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and the Center for Native American Youth. The campaign urges volunteers to create activist art or music, protest, and share actions on Instagram with a dedicated tag. Morello highlighted the project during his anti‑fascist set at Denmark’s Copenhell festival, linking his performance to his mother’s legacy.
