Referee Bas Nijhuis addressed the debate surrounding a yellow card issued to Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman during a 2-2 draw against SC Heerenveen. While critics compared the incident to a previous red card issued to Joey Veerman, Nijhuis explained that the distinction lies in the mechanics of the challenge. He noted that Veerman approached with a straight leg toward the face, whereas Bouwman’s movement went from low to high with a bent leg, suggesting the intent was to play the ball.

In a separate incident, SC Cambuur manager Johan Plat expressed significant frustration following a 3-1 defeat to Fortuna Sittard. Plat and several analysts argued that a penalty should have been awarded in stoppage time after Fortuna goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst struck Nicolas Binder in the head with his arm. The referee, Martin van den Kerkhof, did not award the penalty, and the VAR did not intervene to review the play.
