In the Eerste Divisie, players and commentators criticized officiating inconsistencies, particularly concerning time management. During a Jong PSV match, striker Veerman alleged that referees allowed opposing goalkeepers to count higher than five during goal kicks. Similarly, in a match between NEC and Telstar, goalkeeper Ronald Koeman junior contested a yellow card for time wasting, while journalist Mike Verweij described the referee’s timing of warnings as ‘a bit of an arrogant move’.

In the Eredivisie, debates centered on disciplinary actions and VAR intervention. Referee Bas Nijhuis defended a decision involving Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman by distinguishing the mechanics of his challenge from a previous red card issued to Joey Veerman. Meanwhile, SC Cambuur manager Johan Plat and various analysts expressed frustration after a match against Fortuna Sittard, arguing that a penalty should have been awarded for an incident where a goalkeeper struck a player in the head with his arm, noting that neither the referee nor VAR intervened.
