Dutch highway closures cause extended traffic delays

From Friday 24 July 20:00 UTC until Monday 27 July 05:00 UTC the A9 motorway near Amstelveen is closed in the direction of Schiphol and Haarlem between the Holendrecht and Badhoevedorp junctions. The shutdown allows traffic to be shifted onto the new underground section of the A9, marking a key milestone in the widening project. Rijkswaterstaat expects detours via the A2, A10 and A4 and an additional travel time of 10‑30 minutes. Local one‑way traffic rules are in place on Burgemeester Rijnderslaan, and the southern ramp of the tunnel remains closed until February 2027.

A separate closure affects the A20 between the Kleinpolderplein and Terbregseplein junctions north of Rotterdam. The road is closed to traffic in the Gouda direction from Friday 24 July 22:00 UTC until Friday 7 August 05:00 UTC. Rijkswaterstaat warns of queues up to an hour long and reduced speeds of 70 km/h on the remaining lane. Drivers are redirected via the A13, A16, A4 and A15. The work involves replacing eleven kilometres of asphalt, installing a new safety barrier, new detection loops and other bridge and viaduct repairs.
