Dutch highways A1, A20 and A32 closed for summer maintenance

The Dutch road authority Rijkswaterstaat has begun large‑scale summer maintenance on three major motorways. The A1 between the Eemnes and Muiderberg junctions was closed to traffic toward Amsterdam from 3 July until 17 August, with an expected 30‑60 minute delay for motorists and advice to work from home, use public transport or travel off‑peak.

The A20 section linking the Terbregseplein and Kleinpolderplein junctions near Rotterdam is closed from the evening of 3 July until 17 July, with one lane narrowed and the speed limit reduced to 70 km/h. Drivers are detoured via the A12, A4 and A13, while the ring road around Rotterdam uses the A16, A15 and A4. The works replace 11 km of asphalt, install new guardrails and upgrade drainage and detection systems.

On the A32 between Steenwijk and Heerenveen, the Wolvega on‑ and off‑ramps are fully closed until the end of July. Traffic is managed with a 4‑0 system and a 70 km/h speed limit, with detours routed through the nearby Ter Idzard ramp. The project will renew roughly 15 km of asphalt, replace guardrails and improve drainage, with work continuing through October.
