Dutch highways A20, A44 and N361 closed for maintenance, causing traffic delays

The A20 between the Kethelplein and Kleinpolderplein interchanges and the A44 between Oegstgeest and Leiden are closed for major maintenance. The A20 closure runs from Friday evening, 29 May, until early Monday morning, with works that include resurfacing, replacement of curbs, guardrails and bridge repairs. Drivers are redirected via the A16, A15 and A4 and are advised to allow an extra ten to thirty minutes. The A44 is shut from Friday night until Saturday morning, 30 May, for routine upkeep such as mowing, cleaning and minor repairs, with detours signed on the road network.

Separately, the provincial N361 between Leens and Vierhuizen will be closed for five weeks, from 1 June 06:00 to 3 July 18:00, for resurfacing and widening works. The detour routes through Noordhorn and Grijpskerk add roughly 19 km to the trip, extending travel from about 34 km to 53 km. Provincial environment manager Elmar Bruinius explained the phased approach to minimise disruption during the tourist season, while local business owner Theo Gerdes warned of reduced visitor numbers for the Lauwersoog harbour area.
