Dutch interdisciplinary arts festivals explore land, history and community

The annual Podiumkunstenfestival "Alle Tijd" returns to the island of Brienenoord in Rotterdam for its 2026 edition, themed "ALLE GROND". The program focuses on questions of land ownership, belonging and climate politics, offering a platform for creators addressing housing shortages, agriculture, migration and colonial legacies. Each evening begins with a communal meal before performances in theatre, dance, music and visual art.

At the same time, the 12th edition of the Grasnapolsky festival relocated to the historic former sugar factory in Groningen. Supported by the city mayor, the event featured a diverse lineup of musicians, installations—including a 100‑drum “SUPERDRUM” work—and historical expeditions that explored local slavery history and the city’s grain trade. Both festivals highlight multidisciplinary approaches and civic engagement within the Netherlands' cultural season.
