Dutch libraries expand children's reading with summer program and mobile library

The public library in Stadskanaal kicked off its annual summer program for children, offering weekly activities such as drawing lessons, craft projects, storytime and robot‑building workshops. Organiser Heleen Noordhoek noted attendance was higher than expected, partly due to a new partnership with the welfare organisation Welstad.

In The Hague, the Stadsboerderij Molenweide opened a travelling library called the “Molenbieb”. Built by volunteers from the Adam Father Centre and supplied by Bibliotheek Den Haag, the mobile unit provides low‑threshold access to a range of children’s books, allowing youngsters to read on site, borrow, or pass books to peers. Both initiatives aim to encourage reading habits among local youth through community‑focused events.
