Dutch managers set limits on autonomous AI

A study commissioned by IT consultant Dynamic People reveals that business leaders in the Netherlands are setting strict boundaries on the autonomy of artificial intelligence. Based on a survey of 317 IT and business decision-makers at medium and large organizations, the findings suggest a strong preference for human intervention in critical areas.

Key areas where human oversight is prioritized include contract negotiations, with 53 percent stating AI should never independently close contracts with customers or suppliers. Regarding human resources, 51 percent believe decisions regarding dismissals must always be made by people, while 45 percent apply this to salary and benefits determinations.

Financial autonomy is also limited, as 61 percent of respondents believe AI should not make independent financial decisions above a certain threshold. The most commonly cited limit is 10,000 euros (29 percent), followed by 50,000 euros (22 percent). Furthermore, 83 percent of participants believe full AI autonomy is unrealistic as long as decisions must remain explainable.
