Dutch Members of Parliament use AI for debate speeches

An investigation by Investico and De Groene Amsterdammer reveals that 68 members of the Dutch House of Representatives used artificial intelligence to help generate texts for parliamentary debates over the past year.

Using the program Pangram to scan speech transcripts, researchers identified significant AI usage across various political spectrums. While parties such as the PVV and Groep Markuszower were noted for frequent use, the trend appears widespread, with only the SP, Partij voor de Dieren, and Volt reporting no usage.

René Claassen of Groep Markuszower described AI as a tool to enrich, test, or refute ideas, though he emphasized that the core intent must remain human. Former MP Lahlah of Pro, who used AI in four out of five debates, stated the technology helped condense stories from citizens into limited speaking times.
