Dutch MEP Tineke Strik backs Albanian protests over corruption and protected‑area moratorium

Dutch Member of the European Parliament Tineke Strik joined a protest outside the Albanian prime minister’s office in Tirana, expressing solidarity with demonstrators demanding greater democratic freedoms and an end to corruption. She told the crowd that their voice will be heard in Brussels and called for investigations into alleged corruption to proceed without political interference.

Strik also urged the Albanian government to halt construction projects in protected natural zones, citing the Vjosë‑Narta area as a specific concern. Her remarks were part of a Greens/EFA delegation’s fact‑finding mission that highlighted issues of rule of law, environmental protection, and the need for a moratorium on building in ecologically sensitive regions.
