Dutch motorists adjust travel habits due to high fuel prices
Research conducted by Regeljelease.nl among 1,056 Dutch motorists reveals that rising gasoline and diesel prices are significantly altering travel behaviors across several provinces.
In Overijssel, 40 percent of motorists report cycling more frequently to avoid fuel costs, a figure notably higher than the national average of approximately 33 percent. In Friesland, over 40 percent of drivers have turned to cycling, while more than 25 percent have reduced or combined car trips. In Groningen, nearly a third of drivers have opted to cycle more often.
Beyond switching to bicycles, motorists are adopting other cost-saving measures. In Friesland, 30 percent of drivers report driving more fuel-efficiently, compared to roughly 16 percent nationally. Other common adaptations include walking, using public transport, and combining multiple errands into single trips to minimize mileage.
