Dutch municipalities implement new housing for Ukrainian refugees

Municipalities in the Netherlands are establishing new temporary housing locations for Ukrainian refugees to replace existing sites slated for demolition and redevelopment.

In Olst-Wijhe, a facility at Hamelweg 8b will provide up to 20 shelter spots. This relocation is intended to accommodate displaced persons currently living in areas scheduled for new construction in 2027. The municipality plans to inform residents within a 500-meter radius through letters and information meetings.

In Drunen, residents have expressed concerns to an independent commission regarding a proposed shelter for 45 Ukrainians. Local neighbors have raised issues regarding privacy, noise levels, and visitor policies. While the municipality intends to use permanent privacy film on windows to protect the views of nearby homes, residents are seeking written guarantees regarding how potential disturbances will be managed.
