Dutch municipalities shut homes over drug trade and violent incidents

In Heerlen, mayor Roel Wever ordered the closure of three houses in the Heerlen‑Noord district for twelve months after police investigations uncovered hard‑drugs and weapons, citing a threat to public order and safety.

In Leiden, locoburgemeester Abdelhaq Jermoumi closed a house on Maartje Offerspad for four weeks following a series of violent incidents, including an explosive device that detonated inside the property and a prior stabbing in the garden. Police have opened investigations into both incidents. Both municipalities said the measures aim to protect residents and restore public safety in the affected neighbourhoods.
