Dutch prosecutors seek psychiatric treatment for man accused of kidnapping plot against Princess Amalia

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service has demanded mandatory psychiatric treatment for 33-year-old Anne Romke van der H. following allegations of a plot to kidnap Princess Amalia. While prosecutors stated they lack sufficient evidence to prove an intent to murder Princess Amalia or Princess Alexia, they maintain there is enough evidence to support a charge of attempting to deprive Princess Amalia of her liberty.

Van der H. was arrested in January after causing a disturbance at a hotel in The Hague. Authorities reportedly found two axes in his possession with the words ‘Alexia’, ‘Mossad’, and ‘Sieg Heil’ carved into them, as well as a handwritten note containing the words ‘Amalia’, ‘Alexia’, and ‘bloedbad’ (bloodbath).

During court proceedings, the defendant claimed he was suffering from a two-year psychotic episode driven by voices in his head. He testified that he believed he had a romantic relationship with Princess Amalia and intended to marry her. He further claimed he believed he had received orders from higher authorities to go ‘survival training’ with the Princess in Poland.
