Dutch real estate developer faces prison sentence for drug lab involvement

A 70-year-old real estate entrepreneur from Zwolle and a 53-year-old man from Gramsbergen are facing legal consequences for their alleged roles in operating large-scale drug laboratories in the Overijssel and Drenthe regions of the Netherlands.

Prosecutors claim the two men worked in coordination, using expensive commercial properties purchased by the Zwolle-based real estate firm to host drug production. The laboratories were identified in Bruchterveld, Brucht, and Nieuwlande. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the real estate company rented these properties to the man from Gramsbergen, who struggled to pay rent. This arrangement allegedly served as a financial scheme to artificially inflate the value of the properties on paper, allowing the company to secure larger loans for further acquisitions.

In a related development in Deventer, the mayor has ordered the three-month closure of a commercial building on Arnhemstraat following a police raid that uncovered synthetic drug production materials, drug waste, stolen vehicles, and stolen license plates. The building's owner is contesting the closure in court, arguing that he provided cooperation to the police and that the municipality should have issued a formal warning before ordering a shutdown.
