Dutch road works delayed in Westereen and A27/A59 closures this week

The renovation of the Foarstrjitte street in De Westereen, Friesland, has been postponed from a June deadline to November 2026 due to delays in relocating underground cables and utilities. The municipality of Dantumadiel and the project working group will use the extra time to refine the design, which includes a 30 km/h speed limit, expanded space for cyclists and pedestrians, clearer zone transitions, median islands for safety, additional greenery, and Frisian‑language signage. Work will avoid the busiest November‑December period to keep local shops accessible, and a traffic plan with detours for heavy vehicles has been prepared. Concurrently, the ageing sewage pumping station at De Acht will be moved to a new site on the Sennaerspaad, with a new connecting pipeline and a tender that will evaluate contractor plans for maintaining access during construction.

Separate from the Westereen project, Rijkswaterstaat has scheduled night‑time closures on the A27 and A59 motorways throughout the week for road‑improvement works. The A27 will be closed between Hooipolder and Gorinchem on the evenings of 1‑2 June, 2‑3 June and again from 9‑12 June, with a longer six‑week closure starting 22 June between Everdingen and Gorinchem. The A59 will see nightly closures on 2‑3 June and 3‑4 June at various sections near Hooipolder, affecting traffic toward Den Bosch, Zeeland and Rotterdam. Drivers are advised to follow detours and expect additional travel time.
