Dutch towns launch free outdoor art workshops for children

In Beuningen, the Dijkmagazijn invited children aged 4 to 12 to create sand‑and‑clay sculptures on 8 July. Up to 25 participants could join for a €3.50 fee, using free materials such as sand, clay, shells and found objects. The activity was organised by the municipality and encouraged families to bring sturdy footwear and clothing.

Meanwhile, Rotterdam’s Buurtstudio Rotterdam introduced the mobile "MeeMaakKeet" – a travelling art van equipped with tables, chairs, easels and other supplies. The keet toured neighbourhoods such as Kralingen and Crooswijk, holding Wednesday workshops for children throughout July, August and September. The programme, supported by Citylab010, the VSB Fonds and Stichting Volkskracht, aims to make art accessible outside museums and inspire young residents to explore their creativity.
