Dutch towns see rise in fake‑agent scams targeting elderly

Police in the Dutch towns of Leek and Waalwijk reported separate incidents in which criminals posed as police officers or bank staff to deceive residents. In Leek, a resident was called by an impostor who later entered the home and stole various items. In Waalwijk, an 82‑year‑old woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be a bank employee, invited the caller inside, and had goods taken after the visit.

Both investigations are ongoing, with officers urging the public to warn neighbours about such telephone tricks and to report any suspicious activity, including details such as clothing or bags used by the perpetrators. Authorities are seeking witnesses and any security‑camera footage that could help identify the suspects.
