Netherlands fake‑agent scams targeting elderly

Police warned that genuine officers and banks never ask for PIN codes or personal items.

New developments recorded on 26 July confirm the Vught arrest, noting the suspect was held overnight at ’s‑Hertogenbosch and that police receive dozens of weekly tips about fake‑officer and fake‑bank‑help‑desk scams, prompting wider public warnings on displays and media.

A fresh warning issued on 28 July from Stadskanaal describes callers claiming burglary risk, sending “colleagues” to the door and demanding security codes before stealing cash and jewellery. The same report links a separate phishing case in Zwolle where a victim lost €175 000 after an email purporting to be from the ANWB and a phone impersonation of an ABN Amro employee; suspects arrested in April are being held without bail while investigators trace the funds through multiple accounts and cryptocurrency. Authorities continue to investigate the organised networks behind the scams and advise seniors to remain vigilant.
