Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville scores at World Cup, cites Neymar as inspiration

Crysencio Summerville, 24, scored the Netherlands' second goal in the 2‑2 draw against Japan during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group F match at Dallas Stadium on 14 June 2026. It was his first World Cup appearance and the goal came from a left‑footed curling effort.

After the match Summerville told reporters that Brazilian star Neymar is his primary football influence, saying he grew up watching Neymar’s dribbles and tried to emulate the Brazilian’s creativity on the pitch. The Dutch winger also reunited with Leeds United scout Gaby Ruiz, who had originally brought him to the club in 2020, after his goal.

The draw keeps the Netherlands in contention for the knockout stage as they prepare for their next group fixture against Sweden, while Japan also remain in the hunt. The match was part of a World Cup hosted across the United States, with games in Dallas attracting a global audience.
