Dutchess County increases patrols for Labor Day weekend

Law enforcement agencies in Dutchess County are increasing patrols through Monday, September 7, to combat impaired driving during the Labor Day weekend. This initiative is part of the statewide STOP-DWI campaign, which targets major holiday weekends to identify and remove intoxicated drivers from local roads.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino urged residents to prioritize safety and plan for reliable transportation if they intend to consume alcohol. The crackdown follows data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which reported that 511 people died in crashes across the United States during the 2023 Labor Day holiday period, with alcohol involved in more than one-third of those fatalities.
