Dwayne Johnson explores music career with new country song

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is exploring a potential music career, specifically within the traditional country and soul genres. The actor and former WWE star recently released “Your Dad,” an acoustic country ballad co-written with 2023 American Idol winner Iam Tongi. The track is part of the album “Moana: Voices Across the Ocean,” a companion project to the live-action Moana film, which Johnson executive produced alongside his wife, Lauren Hashian.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson described music as a lifelong “anchor” and expressed a desire to pursue projects that are personally fulfilling rather than purely commercial. He noted that while his previous musical contributions, such as “You’re Welcome” from the animated Moana, were successful, “Your Dad” is a deeply personal song dedicated to his three daughters.

Johnson’s interest in country music is rooted in his youth, citing influences such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. He also revealed that Willie Nelson once gifted him a rare Martin guitar, a significant moment in his musical journey. While he is currently active as a member of the TKO board of directors and in Hollywood, he remains open to future musical endeavors, including the possibility of a duets album.
