Dylan Larkin expands trade destination list amid Red Wings departure

Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin has expanded his list of preferred trade destinations as he seeks a move away from Detroit. Originally reported to be interested in the Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, and Florida Panthers, Larkin’s list has reportedly grown to approximately eight teams.

According to reports from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the expanded list includes the Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Notably, none of the potential destinations are Canadian-based teams. Larkin, who was recently stripped of his captaincy, holds a full no-trade clause and is under contract through the 2030-31 season with an $8.7 million annual average value.

While Larkin has participated in training camp practices, he has missed preseason games due to an upper-body injury. The trade situation is complicated by salary cap constraints; many of the teams on his list are currently near or over the cap, meaning any acquisition would likely require significant roster adjustments or salary relief. Red Wings interim GM Shawn Horcoff has indicated the team is not looking to rebuild, suggesting they will seek high-value, NHL-ready assets in return for the veteran center.
