Dylan Larkin trade request from Detroit Red Wings

Dylan Larkin, the former captain of the Detroit Red Wings, has requested a trade from the franchise, resulting in him being stripped of his captaincy. During the start of training camp, Larkin expressed a desire to “rebuild trust with fans and teammates” while managing an upper-body injury.

As the situation progressed, reports indicated Larkin’s dissatisfaction with the team’s direction. While the Red Wings are actively seeking a trade partner, Larkin holds a no-trade clause through the next two years. Potential destinations discussed include the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars, though Larkin has reportedly limited his list of acceptable destinations and indicated that the Philadelphia Flyers are not a preferred option.

Larkin has since expanded his list of preferred trade destinations to approximately eight teams. According to reports from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, this expanded list now includes the Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Notably, none of the potential destinations are Canadian-based teams.

The trade process is complicated by Larkin’s contract, which runs through the 2030-31 season with an $8.7 million annual average value, and salary cap constraints among interested clubs. Red Wings interim GM Shawn Horcoff has indicated the team is not looking to rebuild, suggesting they will seek “high-value, NHL-ready assets” in exchange for the veteran center.
