Dylan Stewart suspended for one game following Alabama altercation
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the University of South Carolina have jointly issued a one-game suspension to star edge rusher Dylan Stewart. The disciplinary action follows a series of incidents during the Gamecocks’ 49-18 loss to Alabama on September 26.
Stewart was flagged for punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford in the helmet during the fourth quarter. In addition to the physical altercation, Stewart was involved in several other outbursts, including a heated exchange with head coach Shane Beamer and assistant coaches on the sideline, as well as a refusal to leave the field when a substitute was called.
Coach Beamer initially announced an indefinite suspension for the player, whom many analysts project as a potential first-round NFL draft pick. Beamer expressed embarrassment over the conduct, stating that the behavior did not meet the program’s standards of integrity and accountability. Stewart will miss the upcoming game against No. 24 Kentucky.
