Dylan Stewart suspended one game for hitting Alabama player
South Carolina edge rusher Dylan Stewart has received a one-game suspension following a game against Alabama. The disciplinary action was a joint decision made by the university and the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The suspension stems from Stewart punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford in the helmet during South Carolina’s 49-18 loss. Additionally, Stewart exhibited unprofessional conduct on the sideline, which included shouting at coaches and walking away while head coach Shane Beamer was addressing him.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey described the contact as ‘egregious’ and stated that such behavior carries a serious risk of injury. South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer expressed embarrassment regarding the incident, and athletic director Jeremiah Donati noted that the player failed to meet the program’s standards of integrity and composure. Stewart will miss the upcoming game against Kentucky.
