DYPA launches job subsidies for lignite-affected Greek regions
The Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) has launched a new round of applications for businesses to access employment subsidies in regions affected by lignite phase-out. The program, co-financed by the European Union's Just Transition Fund, aims to create 2,700 new full-time positions.
In Western Macedonia, an additional budget of 2,034,597.20 euros has been allocated for this initiative. The subsidies are designed to support the employment of unemployed individuals and former workers from declining sectors, such as lignite mining and conventional power production.
The financial support lasts for 12 months per position. For standard unemployed individuals, the subsidy covers 70% of the salary and contributions, totaling up to 9,954 euros. For those meeting specific criteria related to the Just Transition Plan (JTP), the subsidy covers 100%, reaching up to 14,220 euros per position.
Beyond Western Macedonia, the program also targets Megalopolis and surrounding municipalities, as well as small islands in the North and South Aegean and Crete with populations under 3,100. Applications must be submitted electronically through the OPSEKE system and will be processed until the available budget is exhausted.
