Düzce University develops new community-based model for child diabetes

Düzce University’s Child Diabetes Application and Research Center is developing a community-based model to provide continuous care for children with diabetes. Moving away from a traditional application-based structure, the center aims to provide services proactively within the community rather than waiting for hospital visits.

The center currently manages the treatment and follow-up of approximately 1,000 active pediatric patients. It utilizes advanced diabetes technologies, including glucose sensors, insulin infusion pumps, and semi-artificial pancreas algorithms. To ensure continuous support, the center provides 24/7 assistance to families via telephone, Zoom, and WhatsApp.

Following approval from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the center has gained official status, which is expected to facilitate increased academic collaborations across 13 faculties and departments. Center Director Prof. Dr. İlknur Arslanoğlu stated that the goal is to transform clinical experience into academic research and to compete with international excellence centers by developing new healthcare models.
