Düzce University hosts Gaza humanitarian and academic forum

Düzce University hosted the second “Science Cafe for Gaza” event, titled “Maintaining Hope in Difficult Times: Gaza and Humanity,” at the Düzce Millet Bahçesi. The initiative, launched by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), aims to amplify the voices of students and academics in Gaza striving to continue their education and research amidst conflict.

During the event, Abdalfatah Albaba, a Gazan student studying Civil Engineering at Düzce University, shared his experiences. He described Gaza as a “large prison” facing constant electricity shortages and difficulties in accessing food and water. He characterized the situation as a “77-year genocide” and expressed a desire to live with dignity.

Academic speakers, including Associate Professor Fehmi Soğukoğlu, emphasized the humanitarian nature of the crisis and the historical and religious ties between Turkey and Gaza. The event was moderated by Duygu Özdemir Cömert and attended by university officials, Palestinian students, and local citizens.
