Greece pension updates: Payment schedules and new 400-euro benefit
Greek retirees are facing several upcoming financial developments regarding pensions and social benefits.
In the short term, November 2026 pension payments will be processed in two phases due to the October 28 public holiday. Non-salaried retirees and private sector supplementary pensions are scheduled for October 26, while salaried retirees and public sector pensions will follow on October 29. Funds are expected to be available via ATMs slightly earlier, starting October 23 and October 27 respectively.
Additionally, a new annual financial boost of 400 euros is planned for approximately 2.2 million beneficiaries, including retirees aged 65 and over, certain widowhood pensioners, and individuals with disabilities. This payment is expected to be distributed in late November or alongside December pensions.
Looking toward 2027, a 2.8% pension increase is projected. There are ongoing discussions regarding the total abolition of the ‘personal difference’ (prosopiki diaphora) mechanism. While the full abolition of this distinction is expected by late 2026, some analysts note that the 2027 increase may only apply to the national and compensatory portions of the pension for many, rather than the total gross amount, depending on how the personal difference is integrated.
