Greek pension administration and payment updates

EFKA Governor Alexandros Varveris reported that pending pension applications in Greece have reached a historical low of just over 12,000 cases, with average approval wait times decreasing to approximately 42 days. Regarding future adjustments, Varveris stated that the personal difference for pensioners will be eliminated with the 2027 increase, which is tied to inflation and the consumer price index.

In terms of debt, KEAO's quarterly report indicates liabilities to insurance funds stand at 52.4 billion euros. A recent 600 million euro increase in liabilities included 400 million euros in existing transferred debts and approximately 200 million euros related to EFKA's integration into KEAO.

Following these administrative updates, the e-EFKA administration released the October 2026 pension payment schedule. Payments are divided into two phases: the first on September 25, 2026, covering non-salaried retirees from former funds such as OAEE, OGA, and ETAA, as well as private sector supplementary pensions; the second on September 29, 2026, covering salaried retirees from funds like IKA-ETAM, Bank funds, OTE, and DEI, alongside public sector pensions.
