E-scooter trends show rising fatalities in Poland and market growth in the Netherlands

In Poland, the number of fatal accidents involving electric scooters has reached 11 this year, matching the total for the entire previous year. Total accidents have seen a significant increase, rising from 543 in 2022 to 1,158 last year. Experts suggest that while regulations like mandatory helmets for teenagers may mitigate some risks, they do not solve the core issue of speed. While shared scooters have speed limiters, private models can be modified to reach speeds comparable to cars in urban areas. Experts are calling for better road safety education and manufacturer restrictions on performance improvements.

In the Netherlands, the number of registered legal e-scooters has seen rapid growth. Recent data shows that registered ownership increased from approximately 450 to 1,577 in less than a month. Currently, there are 5,088 registered license plates in the RDW system, though many remain unassigned to owners. The market is currently dominated by the Segway Ninebot Max G3 NL, which holds a 76 percent market share following its introduction at a more competitive price point compared to previous options. New, more affordable models from brands like Pure and Navee are expected to further increase market competition.
