E1 settlement project: Israel issues tenders for 1,234 new units
The National Bureau for Land Defense and Settlement Resistance reported that Israeli authorities have issued the first tenders for a large number of settlement units within the E1 project. The plan aims to connect the settlement of Ma'ale Adumim to Jerusalem.
The tender includes the construction of 1,234 settlement units out of a total of 3,401 units approved for the E1 project. These units are to be distributed across seven separate construction complexes in the southern plan on a hill north of Highway 1, located between Jerusalem and Jericho.
This development occurs while legal proceedings regarding the project continue in the Jerusalem Central Court. Israeli organizations, including ‘Ir Amim’, ‘B'Tselem’, and ‘Peace Now’, along with several Palestinian associations, have petitioned to halt the project. These groups argue that the tender violates a previous commitment by the Israeli prosecution to notify petitioners before proceeding with E1 tenders. The E1 area covers approximately 12 square kilometers and has been a subject of international opposition for over three decades.
