EA Sports FC 26 launches 'The World's Game' mode as BNPL payments rise among Spanish football fans

EA SPORTS FC™ 26 adds a new "The World’s Game" update, offering a standalone tournament featuring 53 nationally licensed teams, including recent licences for Brazil, Turkey, Spain and Portugal. Players can guide their chosen nation from group stages to a final, and the mode is also available on EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile with over 60 national selections. The update was highlighted by England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who said, "I'm excited that fans can stay connected to the team through The World’s Game," and Brazil forward Endrick added, "Representing Brazil on a global stage has always been a dream."

In Spain, the growing popularity of buy‑now‑pay‑later (BNPL) services is helping football fans manage the increased spending tied to major tournaments. According to Oney’s white paper, 37 % of Spaniards have used BNPL services, with 23.8 % doing so in the past year, and more than 30 % of football‑related purchases—such as tickets, travel and equipment—were financed through fractional payments via platforms like plazox. The trend reflects a broader shift toward flexible, digital payment solutions among younger and middle‑income households.

Together, the gaming update and the financial data illustrate how football’s cultural impact extends beyond the pitch into both entertainment technology and consumer finance.
