EA Sports FC 27 launches with new open-world mode and mixed reviews

EA Sports FC 27 has launched with mixed reception, particularly regarding its technical performance and new features. A major addition is ‘The Grounds’, an open-world social mode featuring three districts: Montclair, Zeiza, and Parkside. While the mode offers new ways to interact and complete tasks, reviewers have noted that it lacks a deep story mode and can feel visually uninspiring compared to competitors.

On Steam, the game has received a lukewarm reception, with positive reviews sitting at approximately 59 percent. Early adopters, particularly those with the Ultimate Edition, have reported technical issues including crashes, lag, and performance problems on PC. There are also reports of a ‘pass bug’ where simple ground passes are incorrectly executed as chips or tricks; EA is currently investigating this issue.

Despite technical hurdles, the title introduces meaningful changes to the Manager Career mode, including a multi-stage overhauled transfer system that requires scouting and more deliberate negotiations. Player ratings feature Kylian Mbappé as the top-rated player with 91 points, alongside Erling Haaland. The game also sees the inclusion of the Swiss national team.
