EA Sports FC 27 launches with open‑world The Grounds mode and AI gameplay overhaul
Electronic Arts announced that EA Sports FC 27 will be released on 25 September 2026 in three editions (Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and Standard) with pre‑orders already open. A free “Lite” demo will be available from launch day on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, EA App, Steam and Epic.
The headline feature is a new open‑world hub called The Grounds. It is an online city where players can roam freely, use emotes, meet virtual idols such as Kylian Mbappé, Paulo Dybala and Chloe Kelly, and join a variety of match types – 3‑v‑3 drop‑in games, 11‑v‑11 club matches, tournaments and challenges. The mode was previewed in Vancouver, Canada, and is built around three player‑requested pillars: more ways to play together, more ways to build a football identity, and a fuller experience of football culture.
Gameplay changes focus on reducing automation. AI defenders no longer initiate automatic tackles; they keep their position until the player intervenes, with a larger “pressure‑with‑colleague” distance. Manual tackle range is increased, auto‑tackles are cut, and AI interception reach is reduced. Off‑side awareness has been refined and new attacking spatial‑awareness tools – decisive runs, pass‑and‑follow, triggered curved runs and off‑side awareness – give players more control over creating space. Corner and cross mechanics have been reworked to require more player input.
Career Mode will feature Creator Challenges, letting streamers and community members design custom objectives that can be shared via a portal on mobile or PC and, if popular, integrated into the game.
