EACC arrests officials in Kenya bribery crackdown

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four public officials during separate anti-bribery operations in Kwale and Bungoma counties.

In Kwale County, two Kenya Power security officers, identified as Joseph Dena and Fredrick Odhiambo, were arrested in Diani. They allegedly demanded a Ksh100,000 bribe from a complainant by accusing them of illegal electricity use and promising to prevent legal action in exchange for payment. The suspects were apprehended while allegedly receiving Ksh50,000 and were later released on cash bail.

In Bungoma County, two Law Enforcement and Compliance officers from the county government were arrested in Kimilili. They are accused of demanding bribes from a cyber café operator to allow the business to continue operating without a license, allegedly threatening to shut the establishment down if the money was not paid. The officers were processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being transferred to the Bungoma Police Station.
