Google expands Americas connectivity with three new subsea cables

Google has announced the expansion of its global connectivity infrastructure in the Americas through a project called ‘Americas Connect’. This initiative involves the installation of three new subsea cables designed to strengthen digital links between the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe.

The new infrastructure includes the ‘Alisios’ cable, which will connect Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Chile, creating a route to Google Cloud centers in Chile. In the Pacific, a subsea ring will link Chile to Panama and provide a third connection from Panama to the west coast of the United States via the ‘Curie’ cable, enhancing connectivity to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

In the Atlantic and Caribbean, the ‘Canoa’ cable will connect the Dominican Republic to Bermuda, facilitating links to North America and Europe. Additionally, the ‘OlaLuz’ cable will provide a direct connection between the Dominican Republic and Florida. These projects aim to increase network reliability and resilience for Google Cloud services across multiple regions.
