Earth Defense Force 5 to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in October 2026

D3 Publisher has announced that Earth Defense Force 5 will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. The action shooter follows the Earth Defense Force (EDF) as they battle massive alien invaders known as ‘Primers’ and giant underground insects in a fictionalized version of Japan.

Digital pre-orders are currently available for both the Standard and Deluxe Editions, with a 10% discount offered on the eShop until the launch date. The Switch 2 version includes several quality-of-life upgrades backported from Earth Defense Force 6, such as integrated localized subtitles, expanded button mapping, and unified online/offline progress tracking. The game supports 4-player online co-op and 2-player local split-screen.
