D3 Publisher and Sandlot have announced updates and new releases for the Earth Defense Force series, including expansions to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Earth Defense Force 5 is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. Developed by Sandlot and ported by Yuke's, this reimagined version of the 2017 action shooter includes a new setting and story designed to serve as an entry point for new players. The port features unified UI elements, subtitle functions, damage number displays, and expanded button mapping to align with the upcoming Earth Defense Force 6. Additionally, the Switch 2 version introduces local wireless play, a two-player split-screen mode, and gyro-based controls optimized for handheld play. A Deluxe Edition is available alongside the standard version, offering additional DLC weapons and missions. The game features four distinct classes—Ranger, Wing Diver, Air Raider, and Fencer—and over 1,000 weapon types.

As of October 2026, the game is available in several formats, including a Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition, and a limited D3P WEB SHOP pack, with both physical and digital versions offered. Additional mission packs are scheduled for release in November and December 2026.

Earth Defense Force 6 is confirmed to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Described as the largest entry in the series to date, it will feature a record number of missions and weapons, with all missions supporting online co-op play for up to four players.

Separately, Sandlot announced Earth Defense Force 6: Invaders from Another World for PlayStation 5, an optimized version of the 2022 title. This version aims to provide an “extreme sense of desperation” by doubling the number of enemies on screen and includes new missions and previously exclusive DLC content. A release in Japan is confirmed for 2027.
