Earthquake hits Ourique and surrounding Portuguese municipalities

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was felt in the early hours of Monday morning in the Portuguese municipalities of Ourique, Almodôvar, and Santiago do Cacém, according to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The earthquake occurred at 03:08, with its epicenter located approximately 18 kilometers east of Odemira. It reached a maximum intensity of IV on the Modified Mercalli scale in Ourique, with lower intensities recorded in Almodôvar and Santiago do Cacém. Effects included swaying of suspended objects, vibrating windows and doors, and sensations similar to heavy vehicles passing by. No personal or material damage was reported.

Additionally, IPMA recorded a separate, smaller earthquake of magnitude 2.5 at 00:13, with an epicenter approximately six kilometers east-southeast of Cabo S. Vicente, though this tremor was not reported to have been felt.
