Overview

In early July 2026, Portugal recorded two minor tremors: a magnitude 2.1 quake near Paços de Ferreira on 4 July and a magnitude 2.6 event north of Mourão on 5 July. Both were lightly felt and caused no injuries or damage.

On the night of 22 July, a deeper earthquake struck about ten kilometres south of Évora. The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) adjusted its magnitude to 3.7 and reported intensity III/IV on the Mercalli scale across ten municipalities, including Beja and Elvas, without casualties or material loss. The agency noted a similar magnitude 3.5 event had occurred near Évora in December.

A further tremor was felt on 25 July when a magnitude 2.7 quake occurred 14 km west-northwest of Loulé in the Faro district, registering intensity II on the Modified Mercalli scale. No injuries or damage were reported.

On 10 August, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred at 03:08 near Odemira, with its epicenter approximately 18 km east of the town. The tremor was felt in Ourique, Almodôvar, and Santiago do Cacém, reaching a maximum intensity of IV in Ourique. Reported effects included vibrating windows and doors. Earlier that same day, at 00:13, a separate magnitude 2.5 earthquake was recorded near Cabo S. Vicente, though it was not reported to have been felt.
