Earthquake strikes off the coast of Fukushima, Japan

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture on the morning of September 22, 2026. The tremor, which originated at a depth of approximately 30km, was felt at a maximum intensity of 1 on the Japanese seismic scale.

Shaking was recorded across various locations in both Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures. In Fukushima, affected areas included Shirakawa, Sukagawa, Tamura, Fukushima Date, and Iwaki, among others. In Miyagi, intensity was observed in Osaki, Natori, Ishinomaki, and several other municipalities. No tsunami threat was reported following the event.
