Earthquake strikes off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, Japan

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake occurred off the coast of Iwate Prefecture on August 25, 2026, at approximately 3:07 AM. The earthquake had an estimated depth of 30km.

Seismic intensity of 1 was recorded in several locations across Hokkaido, Aomori Prefecture, and Iwate Prefecture. Specific areas in Iwate included Miyako, Morioka, Ninohe, Hachimantai, and Karumai. In Aomori, tremors were felt in Hachinohe, Towada, Misawa, and several other municipalities, while Hokkaido reported intensity in Hakodate. There is no threat of a tsunami from this seismic event.
