Earthquake strikes German border region near Worms and Mannheim
An earthquake with a magnitude between 3.3 and 3.5 struck the border region of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg on Thursday evening at approximately 5:27 PM. The epicenter was located near Bobenheim-Roxheim and Worms, at a depth of approximately 8 to 10 kilometers.
The tremors were widely felt in cities including Worms, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and parts of southern Hesse. Residents reported houses shaking for several seconds, with some initially mistaking the vibrations for a vehicle collision. Authorities received numerous calls from concerned citizens regarding the event.
Preliminary reports from the police and fire departments indicate no injuries or significant structural damage, though one tree in a district of Worms was reported to have fallen. Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Gordon Schnieder stated that there were no personal injuries and advised citizens not to worry. Experts noted that while minor aftershocks are possible, no major damage has been recorded.
